Dr Arjuna Ratnayaka has been awarded a PhD studentship by the Gerald Kerkut Charitable Trust. The project will investigate the cellular mechanisms underpinning Stargardt disease; an autosomal recessive disorder and the most common macular dystrophy, with onset from childhood, in early or late adult life. The project will utilize induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from patients to test a new treatment for preventing damage to retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells.
